It's alive!
If you've been following along, this is the thing all of that was building toward. The posts about AI amnesia, the memory landscape, the DIY write-back loop.
Brains is a persistent knowledge base that connects to your AI. Whatever you're working on, whatever you've figured out, whatever your AI should already know: it's there the next time you open a chat. On any device. With any AI that speaks MCP.
The beta is open now. You don't need to set anything up from scratch. No folder to sync. No system prompt to maintain. The free tier is live.
If you've been using the DIY approach and hitting the edges of it (one machine, one AI, sync that breaks at the wrong moment), this is the fix.
Why I built it in public
I set a kill condition before I started: 60 days, real users, or shut it down. That constraint made every decision cleaner. It's also why I wrote about the process instead of building in stealth.
You watched the memory get built. Now you can use it.
What's next
The beta is the starting point, not the finished thing. Near-term:
- Better onboarding for people who haven't used MCP before
- Tighter integrations with the tools people actually use
If you try it and something breaks, I want to know. The best beta testers are people who come in with real work and real expectations.
Brains is at usebrains.app. The beta is free. If you hit a wall, hit me up: support@usebrains.app, X, or @brainsforai.bsky.social.
